The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Isidore Chukwudi Chikere, has tasked the State Command Cooperative members to increase their personal savings with the society as a backup plan after retirement from service.
Comdt. Chikere stated this on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NSCDC Staff Cooperative, Investment and Credit Society Limited, which was held at the State Command Headquarters Awka.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, Comdt. Chikere described society as a platform to invest, as well as save money in times of need.
He told the members that the benefits of being a cooperative member are huge, and charged non-members to avail themselves of the financial instruments cum other opportunities available in the Cooperative.
“I have really benefited as a member of the Cooperative Society.
“Therefore, for those contributing little as their savings, I urge you to increase your contribution. Remember, the only thing you can have immediately after retirement is what you have saved in the cooperative.
“Cooperative makes life worth living and simple as it provides succor to those in need of assistance since the central purpose for which it exists is to meet the common needs and aspirations of its members,” he said.
Comdt. Chikere applauded the leadership of the Society for handling the affairs of the society in a well-coordinated and transparent manner.
He said NSCDC Management places a high premium on cooperative activities and will stop at nothing in supporting and promoting the progress of cooperative society in the Corps.
In his address, the president of the NSCDC Anambra Staff Cooperative, Investment and Credit Society, DSC Umeohanna Tochukwu, said, the society recorded twenty-eight million, six hundred and eighty-two thousand, four hundred and fifty-six naira, twenty-eight kobo (N28,682,456.28k) gross profit in the year ended December 31, 2021, which is the highest since the establishment of the society.
He also announced that interest of one million, seven hundred and sixty thousand, four hundred and forty-four naira, nineteen kobo (N1,760,444.19K) would be shared with stakeholders as dividends.
DSC Umeohanna enumerated some of his administration’s achievements which include, the creation of multiple sources of generating revenue for society, instant payment of benefits to retirees and next of kin of deceased members, launching of a digital platform, members access to electronic gadgets and household items, and provision of loans to members.
The guest speaker at the AGM, Mr. Arinze Omenwa, Chief Executive Officer of Naira Rice Resources who spoke on the theme “Agriculture: Alternative Source of Wealth Creation for Public Servants,” encouraged members to diversify into agriculture as an alternative source of income considering the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
In their goodwill messages, the Director of Cooperative Services, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Anambra State, Mrs. Nwabugo Okonkwo, and the Divisional Cooperative Officer, Awka South LGA, Mrs. B. C. Odoegbunam lauded the managerial skills of the executives in offering effective support to the welfare of members.
Other highlights of the AGM were the presentation of retirement benefits to seven retired members and death benefits to the next of kin of deceased members.
