The Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has witnessed a change of leadership as Comptroller Joe Anani officially assumed office following his deployment by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
At a brief handover ceremony, Comptroller Anani, who succeeded Assistant Comptroller General Tenny Mankini Daniyan, pledged to sustain the command’s enviable records in trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and revenue generation.
“The journey to succeed must remain a collective task. I am not here to do it alone,” Anani declared. “I call on all customs officers, sister agencies, private sector stakeholders, and the press to support me in sustaining PTML as a model port of excellence, known for security, efficiency, and diligent trade facilitation.”
He stated that PTML Command holds an impressive record of releasing compliant Roll-on/Roll-off consignments within two hours, stressing that the benchmark could be reduced further with improved compliance.
“Compliance is the key to trade facilitation. It minimises bottlenecks, reduces risks, and fosters trust. For those who embrace compliance, it is a win-win situation that saves time and money. But for non-compliance, there will be interventions, demand notices, and possible seizures,” Anani warned.
The new Customs Area Controller also reiterated his determination to enforce the CGC’s zero tolerance for smuggling, while assuring stakeholders of his accessibility. “My office is without a door. I shall be accessible to all, physically and virtually. Feel free to interact with me and share information necessary for our success,” he added.
Stakeholders at the ceremony commended outgoing ACG Daniyan for his outstanding leadership, particularly in the successful rollout of the Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, which revolutionized trade facilitation and revenue collection.
President of the African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, hailed Daniyan as “a man whose records speak volumes positively,” urging him to carry the same zeal into his new role at Customs headquarters.
Similarly, Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), PTML Chapter, Chief Charles Nwarrienne, praised Daniyan’s tenure, stating that “he deserves a certificate of project completion for diligently steering the success of B’Odogwu from pilot stage to consolidation.”
With Comptroller Anani’s assumption of office, expectations are high among stakeholders that PTML will consolidate its reputation as a pace-setter in efficient port operations.
