The Commissioner of Police, in Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has promised the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council that he would ensure that none of its members are subjected to any form of brutality by the police under his command.
In the same vein, he commended the journalists in Lagos State for their acts of Professionalism and Steadfastness in reporting issues in the state.
These declarations were made on Wednesday as the executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos Council, under the leadership of Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, paid a courtesy visit on the Commissioner at the Command’s Conference Room, State Headquarters, Ikeja-Lagos.
The police boss was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Ahmed Kontangora, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP Bassey Ewah, Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, Panti, DCP Adegoke Fayoade, and the Assistant Commissioners of Police, Administration and Operations.
CP Hakeem Odumosu appreciated the fourth estate of the realm for supporting the police in its tasks and fighting against the culture and spread of fake news in the state, as many journalists in the state endeavour to confirm stories before breaking and posting them on their various platforms and medium
The Chairman NUJ, Lagos, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, applauded the Commissioner of Police and his team in the command for their commitment to fighting crimes and criminality and ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force is reformed to attain its professional status.
He, however, appealed to the Commissioner of Police to rebuke the policemen who have assaulted and harassed their members in one way or the other in order to make sure that justice prevails.
The Commissioner of Police promised to protect all bonafide members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state and set a mechanism in motion to prevent them from police harassment and brutality in the state.
