The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has continued his statewide security engagements ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election, with strategic visits to Ihiala Area Command and Oraifite Division.
The visits, held on Monday, October 27, 2025, formed part of the Command’s ongoing advocacy for election patriotism, peace, and community-based security collaboration.
During the engagements, CP Orutugu met with key community stakeholders, including the President General of Ihiala Community, Commander of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, the Youth Chairman, representatives of the Local Government Chairman, and officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force serving within the two jurisdictions.

The Police Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the improving security situation in Ihiala, noting that the area had overcome its past structural security challenges. He commended residents of Ihiala and Oraifite for their courage, civic-mindedness, and cooperation with security agencies, describing their resilience as a major factor in sustaining community peace and political stability.
While addressing personnel at Oraifite Division, CP Orutugu lauded the synergy between the Police and other security agencies in maintaining order. He clarified, however, that local vigilante groups will not be part of election security operations, emphasizing that the Police and authorized security agencies will coordinate all electoral deployments.

Reassuring the public of the Police Command’s readiness for the polls, the CP reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property while ensuring that the forthcoming governorship election is peaceful, credible, and free of intimidation.
“Patriotism during elections means rejecting fear-based narratives, refusing intimidation, and participating freely in the democratic process,” CP Orutugu stated.
He further charged officers and men under the two Area Commands to maintain discipline, professionalism, and courtesy in their operations, stressing that policing must remain people-centered, intelligence-driven, and grounded in respect for human rights.

In a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, CP Orutugu also disclosed that the joint security framework in Anambra remains active and will be strengthened across all communities to prevent criminal infiltration and sustain peace before, during, and after the election.
The Police Command, therefore, urged residents of Anambra State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing security efforts. Members of the public with useful information are encouraged to report through the Command’s emergency numbers: 112 or 07039194332, for prompt response.
