COMMISSIONER TAKES SECURITY ADVOCACY TO AGUATA, OTUOCHA AREA COMMANDS
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has reaffirmed the neutrality and non-partisan stance of the Nigeria Police Force as preparations intensify for the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state.
CP Orutugu gave the assurance during visits to the Aguata and Otuocha Area Commands as part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening security coordination and stakeholder collaboration ahead of the polls.
Addressing officers and men of the Command, the Commissioner emphasized that the Police have no interest in who wins or loses the election. He said the Force’s priority is to ensure that the electoral process is peaceful, credible, and secure before, during, and after the exercise.

He charged Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical and operational commanders to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and fairness as political activities heighten across the state. Officers, he said, must remain apolitical and guided by the provisions of the Electoral Act, the Police Code of Conduct, and Standard Operating Procedures.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, during the visit, CP Orutugu also held interactive sessions with key community stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, town union executives, youth and women groups, and local vigilante formations. Discussions focused on enhancing intelligence sharing, discouraging voter intimidation, and promoting peaceful civic participation.
While commending the relative calm in Otuocha, the Commissioner lauded communities in the area for resolving disputes through dialogue and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.

He encouraged them to set up internal peace committees to address civil disagreements, particularly land-related issues, cautioning against channeling such matters to the Police as criminal cases.
CP Orutugu further assured residents of Anambra of the Command’s readiness to provide adequate security during the election period. He said strategic deployments, intelligence monitoring, and rapid response units are already in place to safeguard lives and property.
He urged political actors and community members to avoid inflammatory statements or actions capable of disrupting public peace, emphasizing that the unity and stability of Anambra State are far more important than partisan interests.
