The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has celebrated the retirement of one of its senior officers, Dera Nnadi, marking the end of a distinguished career dedicated to national service and institutional development.

The colourful ceremony, held on March 3, 2026, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, brought together members of the NCS management team, senior officers, family members and well-wishers to honour the retiring Deputy Comptroller-General.

The occasion was particularly symbolic as it coincided with Nnadi’s 60th birthday, making the event both a farewell ceremony and a milestone birthday celebration.

Leading the Service in paying tribute, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, described the retired officer as an exemplary leader whose professionalism, discipline and dedication to duty strengthened the operational effectiveness of the Customs Service.

According to Adeniyi, the ceremony provided an opportunity not only to celebrate a successful career but also to recognise the sacrifices of officers who dedicate their lives to safeguarding the nation’s economic and border security.

“Today is a moment of celebration and reflection. It is also an opportunity for us to thank Almighty God for the grace that has sustained our colleague throughout his years of service,” the CGC said.

He noted that Nnadi’s career reflected the core ideals of the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly in leadership, revenue generation and trade facilitation.

Adeniyi also highlighted the personal and professional relationship he shares with the retiree, noting that their bond extends beyond official duties to family ties.

He expressed confidence that the retired DCG still possesses the energy and experience to continue contributing to national development through academic and other professional engagements.

Members of the Customs management team also paid glowing tributes to the retired officer, commending his leadership qualities, integrity and commitment to mentoring younger personnel within the Service.

Officers who served under him described him as a dependable leader who provided guidance and encouragement while strengthening the institutional capacity of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Responding to the honour, Nnadi expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General, the management team and officers of the Service for their support and cooperation throughout his career.

He described his years in the Customs Service as a fulfilling journey of growth, learning and service to the nation.

The ceremony featured the presentation of awards, gift items and commemorative photographs in honour of the distinguished officer.
