The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa has ordered a discreet investigation into the alleged incarceration of a naval rating by a senior officer for six years without trials.

Disclosing this in Abuja, the Director Defence Information (DDI), Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said in a statement that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has taken notice of a circulating video clip alleging the unjust incarceration of a Naval rating, Seaman Abbas Haruna, for six years.

In response to this allegation, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has directed an immediate investigation into the matter,” adding that the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.

“The DHQ wishes to assure the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

“The military court-martial process, though meticulous, ensures fairness, equal opportunity, and justice by established military procedures and the law.

As a result, the DHQ has called on the general public to “exercise caution and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information” while the investigation is ongoing.

Adding the Armed Forces’ assurance to galvanize a speedy and transparent investigation.
