The outgone Commanding Officer, 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Bonny Cantonment, Lt Col Ike Amajuoyi told officers and soldiers of the battalion to abhor anything that would bring the image of the army to disrepute.
He gave this admonition while handing over to his successor, Lt Col Mohammed Lawal at the Battalion Headquarters, Bonny Cantonment, Lagos on Monday.
“Desist from illegal duties and don’t do anything that would tarnish the image of the Nigerian Army. Avoid any illegalities as any duty or assignment that is not approved by the battalion headquarters is illegal. Therefore, do what is right so that we can have a better society,” he reiterated.
While thanking the troops for their immense support in the past year as the Commanding Officer, he noted that “it was not an accident or coincidence that he was posted in July 2021 and posted out in July 2022. It is ordered by God and everything around us happens with the approval of God.”
To his successor, he urged him to lay emphasis on training and retraining of the men as it serves as the only veritable weapon to achieve the best, adding that “the unity, security, love, and patriotism of this country resides mostly on the military officers and soldiers.”
He noted that all the laudable achievements he recorded were made possible because of the enormous support he enjoyed from the troops. “I worked assiduously for the growth of the battalion and carried out landmark renovations and remodelling of facilities within the battalion.”
Lt Col Amajuoyi called on the troops not to meddle with issues of religion and ethnicity as they are not glorified in the army but we are only bonded by unity and moving the country forward. “Do what is right and stop cutting corners. You will be treated based on what you can offer and make the army a better profession.”
On his part, after taking over as the new Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lt Col Mohammed Lawal said with the enormous briefing he has had from his predecessor, a formidable battalion would be built but solicited for the support of the officers and soldiers to achieve the result.
Shortly before the signing of Handing and Taking over notes which dovetailed into addressing the troops at the battalion Parade Ground, the new Commanding Officer was decorated with the battalion insignia and accoutrements as well as hoisting of the new flag of authority at the Quarter Guard mounted by soldiers of the battalion.
