As some Naval officers and ratings continue to apply for voluntary retirement from the force, the Director of Navy Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Joel Adeoye, has expressed concern over the increasing rate of voluntary retirements from the service.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with inadequate operational equipment, and budgetary constraints affecting the Nigerian Navy.

These were disclosed on Wednesday, 20th August 2025, when the Director, Mr. Adeoye, accompanied by Mr. Kola Aragbaye, Deputy Director Navy Logistics, paid a Familiarization visit to Headquarters Eastern Naval Command.

Shortly after briefing and presentation on the Command’s activities, Mr. Adeoye in his remarks emphasized the need to improve personnel welfare—particularly in the areas of accommodation, transportation, and healthcare.

He explained that the purpose of the visit was to familiarize the Director with the activities, operations, and facilities of the Nigerian Navy.

The delegation was received at the Command’s conference room by the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral K C Ezete, along with the Principal Staff Officers of the Command.

While commending the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla on the ongoing infrastructure development projects, the Director assured the Command that the Ministry of Defence would provide the necessary support in critical areas of need.

In his response, the Flag Officer Commanding thanked the Director for his observations, commendations, and commitment to the progress of the Nigerian Navy.
