The Military Pensions Board (MPB), says that the commencement of the Electronic Verification Exercise for military pensioners in the country will begin nationwide on the 1st of July, 2024.

The exercise is to enable existing military Pensioners who are alive and on the payroll of MPB to be identified, to continue receiving their pension.

According to the Chairman of the Board, Air Vice Marshal Paul Irumheson, who disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, 28th June 2024 said that the e-verification exercise would last for three months beginning on 1st July 2024 and ending on the 30th September 2024.

Eligible military pensioners are expected to carry out the verification from the comfort of their homes, using a mobile device, without the need to gather for physical verification.

To do that, AVM Irumheson further disclosed that the pensioners are required to download the Military Pensions Board Electronic Verification App named “MPB Verification” from the Google Play Store (for Android Phone users) or the AppStore (for iPhone users).

“The application will take pensioners through a verification process using their National Identification Number (NIN) or Driver’s Licence Number and Bank Verification Number (BVN).

“For a successful verification, pensioners should ensure that the names on their BVN and NIN or Driver’s Licence are the same as those on the MPB database.

It was learnt that every military pensioner both home and abroad compulsorily met to participate as failure to do so would lead to such pensioners who are unable to complete their verification by 30th September 2024 being suspended from the payroll.

As a result, military pensioners are advised to carry out their verification within the stipulated period of three months.

Before now, military pensioners had been subjected to physical verifications leading to transporting themselves to nearest barracks closest to their dwelling places.

The untold stress, as a result, often lead to countless deaths through accidents, health challenges and others. With this, pensioners would no longer have to travel to be verified. In the same vein, the financial burden incurred by government, would also be saved.
