The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede has described the fight against corruption as a fight that cannot be won by the Commission alone stressing that there is a need for collaboration among all stakeholders.
He stated this on Tuesday, January 20, 20024 when the management of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), represented by the General Managers of the specialized stations namely, NTA Hausa, NTA Yoruba, NTA Igbo, NTA Entertainment and NTA Knowledge paid a courtesy visit to the Commission to introduce the concept of indigenous language programmes of the Station to the Commission.
According to the Chairman who was represented by the Secretary to the Commission, Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda, “the mandate of the Commission is to fight corruption through prevention, enforcement and coordination”.
“As we all know, prevention is better than cure. Our prevention efforts include intelligence gathering to prevent corruption and through education, sensitization and enlightenment of the public. I believe that this visit by the NTA is important in taking the fight against corruption to a higher dimension”, he said.
The Chairman said the specialized NTA stations would even be a more significant partner as they cover the critical spectrum of society. “We need your support to take the fight against corruption to the grassroots in the different languages covered, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo”, he said
Earlier in his presentation, Teni Ajayi, General Manager, NTA Entertainment, who led the delegation said that the visit would offer the Commission a wider vista for anti-corruption messages to be churned out every week. “We have come to discuss how the Commission would come on board using the major indigenous languages to reach out to the general public”, he said.
Also speaking, Acting Director, Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, described the visit as a win-win for both the NTA and the Commission.
“Part of the communication strategy of the Commission is to use local languages to reach the vast majority of the people. And with this initiative, we are on course”, he added.
Other members of the delegation are Orji Chukwuka J, General Manager, NTA, Igbo; Adebayo Ogori, General Manager, NTA, Yoruba; Olubukola Da-Silva, General Manager, NTA Knowledge and Aminu Ishaq Abbas, General Manager, NTA, Hausa.
