The 192 Battalion, Owode-Yewa barracks community were treated to a sumptuous luncheon by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu to commemorate the Year 2021 Eid-El-Fitr which signalled the end of the Ramadan Fast for Muslim faithful.
Joined with the GOC in attendance at the luncheon was the Commander 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Mayirenso Lander Saraso.
General Fejokwu in his remarks, urged personnel and their families to remain disciplined, law-abiding and committed at all times. He assured the troops that he would ensure timely rotation of their colleagues currently deployed in various ongoing operations across the country, especially those in Operation HADIN KAI.
The GOC informed those present at the event that he organised the luncheon to enable him to felicitate with the Owode-Yewa barracks community on the joyous occasion of the Eid-El-Fitr 2021, adding that his choice of 192 Battalion location which is located on the outskirts of Ogun State was to identify with the families of the troops, most of whom have been on operation in the North East for more than a year now and to give them a sense of belonging.
The GOC, who was also the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion urged the soldiers and their families to use the opportunity of the occasion to enjoy and unwind themselves with their neighbours while praying for the safe return of their husbands soon.
Some invited guests who graced the occasion included His Royal Highness, Alake Of Ajilete Oba Kabir Aderibigbe, His Royal Highnesses Oba (Reverend) Mathew Sunday (JP), the Olu of Owode and His Royal Majesty, Oba (Professor) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Oba Lanleke, Olota of Ota.
Others include the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Wole Abioye, who represented the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Owode and Assistant Commander Akinwunmi Olaoluwoye, Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps ldiroko, Ogun State.
The high point of the celebration was the dance segment which featured Major General Fejokwu, Brigadier General Saraso and the children of soldiers in the barracks.
The event was both interesting and comical as the GOC, Commander 9 Brigade and the Children thrilled the crowd with different dance steps. The occasion climaxed with the presentation of gifts to the GOC by Members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), 192 Battalion Chapter and the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA).
Major General Fejokwu also presented gifts to widows of soldiers who paid the supreme price for the nation. Items presented to the widows included bags of rice, cartons of indomie noodles, spaghetti and wrappers.
