The Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Musa Etsu-Ndagi has been going round visiting his Area of Responsibilities (AOR) to pacify angry youths to sheath their swords and embrace peace.
As a strategic move to contain the #EndSARS protests within Lagos Area, the Commander calmed angry youths in various communities and addressed them on the need to halt the carnage.
He asked that the youths should not allow their emotions becloud their sense of reasoning, noting that people often regret the actions they took out of anger.
“Many of us are proud of Lagos State as the commercial capital of Nigeria. Destroying shoprite and other assets that have given the state the pride of place could sadly relegate it” the Commander said.
He noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had addressed the demands of the protesters within his ability and had taken other demands to Mr President. “The hopes are high that all your concerns will be addressed, so let’s give the government a chance”, the Commander persuaded.
Against the threat of attack on the government house at Alausa, the Commander asked the youths in the area to rather protect the government house, following claims by them that the expected attackers were from outside the general area.
“As aspiring leaders, don’t destroy your own house which some of you could occupy sooner than you expect. If miscreants who have hijacked your protest come around, do not even fight them as that could cause pandemonium.
“Embrace them and ask that you reason together and give peace a chance. I urge all of you to be ambassadors of peace, and go out to spread the message of love and peace, the Commander concluded.
Commander Etsu-Ndagi also addressed the feuding parties in the ethnic rivalry at Fagba. He appealed to both groups to eschew any form of vendetta or reprisal over slain kinsmen as the dominant effect on other regions of the country will take far more lives.
Also, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General GA Umelo also pacified both parties through video call.
According to the spokesperson of the Brigade, Maj Austin Bello said Areas Brigadier General Etsu-Ndagi visited included: Mushin; Fadeyi; Onipanu; Maryland, Alausa; Ketu; Mile 12; Berger; Agege ABBATOIR; Fagbaja; Shangisa; Ikeja Allen junction; Iyana IPaja; Oshodi and Ilupeju.
