A fake soldier who abducts a young man at Ikeja and took him to 3rd Mainland bridge before abandoning him, has been arrested by men of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos State Police Command.
It was learnt that the suspect identified as a 42 years old Kingsley Wanogho, dispossessed the victim of his iPhone 13.
However, according to the police statement, the suspect, who was found with a fake army identity card with the rank of a Sergeant, was a dismissed army Sergeant and ex – convict.
He was arrested at Ikeja Under bridge by police operatives after being spotted by one of his victims around Computer Village, Ikeja on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect on 30th December, 2024 accused his victim of stumbling on him. He claimed he lost a gold ring in the process and that his victim must produce the ring for him.
Thereafter, Wanogho told his victim, Solomon, that he was an army officer, and displayed his identification card. It was further revealed that, Wanogho told his victim that if he couldn’t produce his gold ring, he was going to take him to army barracks in Oshodi.
Investigations however revealed that at this point, the suspect invited an accomplice on motorcycle and hauled his victim on bike.
On the pretext that they were taking the victim to Army Cantonment, they drove him to Third Mainland Bridge, collected his iPhone 13 and money, and abandoned him there.
Further investigations revealed that Wanogho sold the iPhone 13 for N150,000 at the Computer Village, Ikeja.
It was learnt that the suspect was once arrested last year in Ikeja and imprisoned over similar crime.
Recovered from him were Nigerian army fez cap and Nigerian Army fake identity card.
The suspect has been transferred to CP’s Special Squad for further investigation.
