The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Miller G. Dantawaye, has redeployed and reshuffled Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the FCT ahead of the Area Council Elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The redeployment, carried out in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and ensuring professionalism before, during, and after the polls.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the move forms part of a comprehensive security arrangement designed to safeguard the electoral process and guarantee a free, fair, and credible election.
While charging the affected DPOs, Dantawaye urged them to discharge their responsibilities with utmost professionalism, impartiality, and dedication. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and electoral materials throughout the exercise.
The Command also announced a restriction of movement across the FCT from 8:00 p.m. on February 20, 2026, to 6:00 p.m. on February 21, 2026. The restriction, it said, will not apply to essential service providers and duly accredited election officials.
Residents were advised to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and actively participate in the democratic process by exercising their civic responsibilities.
The police further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
