FCT MINISTER SEEKS

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to deepening economic and bilateral relations with Turkey, particularly with its commercial hub, Istanbul.

Wike made the declaration on Monday, November 17, 2025, when he received the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Welcoming the envoy, the Minister praised the cordial relationship between Nigeria and Turkey and acknowledged the growing population of Turkish nationals conducting legitimate businesses across the FCT. He assured that the Administration would continue to provide a secure and enabling environment for investment.

“I would like to particularly see how we can partner with Istanbul to improve our economic relations,” Wike said. “There are many Turkish nationals here engaged in various enterprises. We intend to provide a free environment where your citizens can carry out their businesses without molestation.”

He noted that both countries have enjoyed commendable economic cooperation over the years and expressed readiness to explore concrete areas of partnership. Wike urged the Ambassador to engage the FCTA on any specific fields where collaboration or assistance is required.

“If there are things you believe will be of assistance from the Administration, do not hesitate to approach us. Also explore ways in which the FCT can benefit from economic ties with Istanbul or any other city with mutually beneficial prospects,” he added.

The Minister also appreciated the Turkish Embassy for expediting visa processes for Nigerians, particularly Abuja-based businesspersons, noting that the gesture has significantly enhanced trade and travel convenience.

In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy emphasized that economic cooperation remains a central pillar of Nigeria–Turkey relations. He identified strong potential for increased bilateral trade and commended the FCTA for the quality services provided to the diplomatic community.

He explained that simplifying visa procedures for Nigerian entrepreneurs was a deliberate step aimed at boosting both people-to-people and business-to-business engagements between the two nations.

The Ambassador extended gratitude to the FCT Minister and associated institutions for their support and hospitality to Turkish nationals residing and doing business in Abuja.
