Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man alleged to be part of a network supplying ammunition to bandits in Zamfara State.

The suspect, identified as Ahmed Abubakar of Gusau, Zamfara State, was apprehended on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m. by the Command’s Tactical Team following credible intelligence. He was arrested at Anguwan Dodo in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja, where he currently resides.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations show that Abubakar had been in communication with an associate, Yusuf Mohammed, as part of an effort to procure 1,000 rounds of ammunition for delivery to bandits operating in Zamfara. Further inquiries also linked the suspect to his uncle, identified as Ahmed Yakubu, who is believed to be a key member of the network and is currently on the run.

Police authorities say Abubakar acted on instructions from his uncle to purchase and transport the ammunition to criminal groups within their Zamfara locality.

The suspect is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the wider criminal syndicate.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime across the Territory and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. Members of the public can reach the Police through the emergency lines: 0803 200 3913, 0806 158 1938, and 0902 222 2352.
