The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three notorious armed robbery suspects linked to the brutal murder of legal practitioner, Barrister Princess Chigbo Nwamaka Mediatrix, in a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime.
The arrests followed directives from the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, PSC, to swiftly identify and bring to justice those responsible for the heinous murder and other similar crimes within the Territory.
Between 5th and 10th January, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, tracked the victim’s mobile phone and conducted intelligence-led operations in Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities within Kubwa. These efforts led to the arrest of Saifullahi Yusuf (22), resident of Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei, Abuja; Ishau Yusuf (24), also resident of Dan-Tata Community, and biological brother of Saifullahi and Minka’ilu Jibril (aka Dan-Hajia), all from Kaduna State.
Investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate that has operated intermittently in the FCT, particularly during festive periods.
On 5th January, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Barr. Princess Chigbo unknowingly boarded their black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway. The suspects reportedly closed the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons, and demanded a ransom. When she allegedly refused to cooperate, she was physically assaulted and pushed from the moving vehicle, resulting in her death.
The suspects also admitted to stealing her Android mobile phone, which was later sold for ₦120,000. Minka’ilu Jibril reportedly received ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect at large, Musa, shared the remainder.
During the arrests, police recovered several items believed to have been used in the crimes, including five scissors, two sharp dagger knives, two knives, a long chain used to restrain victims, and a plier.
Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect and uncover any additional criminal networks connected to the syndicate.
CP Dantawaye commended the professionalism of the operatives and reassured residents of the FCT of the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements. The public is urged to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and report any suspicious activity via the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
