The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with a culpable homicide incident that occurred in the Byazhin area of the FCT.

According to a statement by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, the incident took place on 12th February 2026, around 11:45 PM, when the Byazhin Divisional Headquarters received a distress call reporting that 16-year-old Chidera Benjamin of Byazhin Across had allegedly attacked his mother with a machete during a domestic dispute, causing serious injury to her hand.

Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two neighbours, Cosmos Okafor, aged 31, and Okechukwu Wisdom, aged 17, allegedly intervened after witnessing the attack on Chidera Benjamin’s mother. The confrontation reportedly arose from allegations that Chidera had been transferring funds from his mother’s bank account into his personal Opay account without her consent.

During the altercation, Chidera Benjamin sustained severe injuries inflicted by the neighbours and became unconscious. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel. Both suspects were promptly arrested by the Police.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., while commiserating with the family, urged residents to always adopt peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, noting that actions taken in anger can have tragic and irreversible consequences.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Command also encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the Police via the emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
