The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted a report by the Daily Trust newspaper alleging that two wedding guests were killed by kidnappers within the FCT, clarifying that the incident in question took place in Niger State, not Abuja.
The clarification follows a publication in Daily Trust’s October 6, 2025 edition, titled “Kidnappers Kill 2 Wedding Guests at FCT.”
In a statement issued on Monday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said investigations and geographical checks confirmed that the locations cited in the report — Garam, Rafin-Azum, and Tafa Local Government Area — are all communities situated in Niger State.
“The incident described in the report did not occur within the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement read.
“Furthermore, the Suleja Police Area Command referenced in the story is under the Niger State Police Command, not the FCT Command.”

The Command described the headline as misleading and cautioned against misrepresenting facts that could create unnecessary fear among residents of the FCT.
“While we sympathize with those affected and acknowledge the proximity of these border communities to Abuja, media reports must maintain geographical accuracy to prevent public misunderstanding,” the statement added.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or persons within the territory.
The Command also urged the public to make use of its emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
