The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted social media reports alleging that police officers attacked a naval officer, identified as Lt. Ahmed Yerima, during a stop-and-search operation at the NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway.
The Command described the claims—circulated by Instagram blogger “Mazitundeednut”—as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to incite fear.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on 16 November 2025 at about 6:15 p.m. when a police patrol team stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows.
In line with standard procedures, officers requested the driver’s identity and an explanation for the vehicle’s concealments. The driver, however, reportedly refused to identify himself and wound up his windows while making several phone calls.
Adeh explained that minutes later, three naval personnel arrived at the scene and politely identified the driver as their colleague. They also recorded the interaction before leaving. Once his identity was confirmed, the police team allowed the officer to proceed, and the patrol continued without incident.
“It is surprising that such a routine and peacefully resolved encounter could be twisted into a tale of an assassination attempt,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, urged residents and visitors to cooperate with officers performing lawful duties and to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing public panic.
The Command encouraged the public to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) on 08107314192.
