The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has deployed 2,202 police personnel across Abuja and its satellite towns to ensure a peaceful and secure end-of-year celebration for residents and visitors.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, psc, disclosed this in his end-of-year message and security advisory issued on Wednesday, as the Territory prepares to transition into the 2026 New Year.
CP Dantawaye extended festive greetings to residents and visitors, assuring them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and public order throughout the festive season.
According to him, the deployment was carried out in line with the 2025 festive season operational order and is aimed at guaranteeing a hitch-free celebration across the FCT. He explained that police personnel have been strategically stationed at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public spaces.
The Commissioner noted that the security arrangements are supported by enhanced visibility policing, intelligence-led patrols, and constant monitoring of identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties that could be exploited by criminal elements. He added that targeted raids would be conducted where necessary to forestall criminal activities.
He further disclosed that tactical units, rapid response squads, and patrol teams are actively engaged, with intensified vehicular and foot patrols ongoing across the Territory. The FCT Police Command, he said, is also working closely with sister security agencies to ensure coordinated and comprehensive security coverage during the festive period.
As part of additional safety measures, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points, in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police. General security surveillance has also been heightened to enable prompt detection and neutralisation of potential threats.
CP Dantawaye reiterated that the use of fireworks, firecrackers, banga, knock-out, or similar explosive devices remains prohibited within the FCT. He warned that anyone found in possession or use of such items would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding, and to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or items to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
He reassured the public of the Command’s readiness to safeguard lives and property, wishing residents and visitors a peaceful festive season and a prosperous New Year.
