The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the death of one of its officers following a fatal accident along the Sani Abacha Expressway, near the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

The incident, which occurred at about 2:20 p.m., involved a mixer truck reportedly driven by Salman Usman, an employee of a construction company based in Wuse Zone 5. According to preliminary investigations, the truck lost control and crashed at the location, hitting two police personnel who were on official duty.

One officer died from injuries sustained in the crash, while the second officer is receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

The Police Command noted that the accident underscores the daily risks faced by officers tasked with protecting lives and ensuring smooth traffic flow across the FCT.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the truck driver has been arrested, and other vehicles involved in the incident have been impounded for safety checks and further investigation.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, expressed condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased officer, and wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery. He also assured the public of a comprehensive investigation to ensure accountability.

Residents are encouraged to report emergencies or security concerns via the command’s hotlines: 08061581938 and 08032003913.
