In its efforts to combat crime and criminality in the capital city, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in apprehending suspected criminals in various locations of the FCT.

Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Command’s intensified operations have led to the arrest of six notorious ‘One Chance’ groups and the impounding of 296 vehicles for various violations.

CP Disu who revealed this during a press briefing held on December 3, 2024, commended the residents of the FCT for their support and collaboration, which have been instrumental in achieving these results.

The Commissioner highlighted the Command’s proactive strategies and the establishment of a Special Tactical Team as key measures in ensuring the safety and security of residents.

According to him, “One of the Command’s notable achievements was the arrest of six ‘One Chance’ groups that had terrorized residents in recent months.

“On November 23, 2024, operatives from the State Intelligence Department apprehended a suspect, Ibrahim Kabiru, during a routine patrol along Ahmadu Bello Way. Items recovered from his vehicle included a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, a knife, scissors, two mobile phones, and female luggage suspected to be stolen. Kabiru is currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.

“On November 6, 2024, the Command apprehended three members of a gang known for impersonating law enforcement officers to abduct unsuspecting victims.”

CP Disu said, “Further investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects Hyelda Aliyu (29), Mathias Nwosu (40), and Blessing Ukachukwu (49). Recovered items included a silver Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. KUJ 27 TY) and a blue Mazda 323 (Reg. No. RBC 711 XL). The suspects have confessed to their crimes and are awaiting trial.

“In another success story, the Command rescued a heavily pregnant woman, Doris Gabriel, who had been abducted by a ‘One Chance’ gang posing as commercial vehicle operators. The swift response by operatives from the Karimo Division led to the arrest of a suspect, Ikechukwu Ngerem, at the scene, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.

“As part of the Command’s operations, 296 vehicles were impounded for various traffic violations, including the use of tinted glasses without proper authorization, driving with only one plate number, and using concealed or defaced number plates. This operation aims to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and prevent the misuse of vehicles for criminal activities.”

CP Disu emphasized the importance of public cooperation in the fight against crime. He urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and utilize the Command’s established communication channels to provide valuable information.

“These achievements underscore our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property in the FCT. Let us continue working together to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all residents.

“The recent successes of the FCT Police Command serve as a testament to the effectiveness of their proactive measures and the critical role of community support in combating crime,” CP Disu stated.
