The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in crime prevention and enforcement, arresting 160 suspects and rescuing dozens of victims between October and December 2025.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, where he presented the scorecard of the Command’s activities since assuming office in October.

CP Dantawaye explained that following a comprehensive review of the security situation across the six Area Councils of the FCT, the Command identified key criminal threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, “one-chance” robbery, car theft, drug-related offences and other violent crimes.

He said the Command adopted a focused, intelligence-driven operational strategy in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun. The approach, according to him, was anchored on crime analysis, hotspot mapping, enhanced visibility policing, community engagement and collaboration with sister security agencies.

According to the Commissioner, a total of 300 cases were reported within the three-month period under review, leading to the arrest of 160 suspects across various crime categories.

He revealed that seven kidnapping cases were recorded, resulting in the arrest of 41 suspects, while intelligence-led operations and forest combing exercises disrupted several kidnapping gangs operating within and around the FCT.

Armed robbery incidents stood at 62 cases, with 38 suspects arrested and several syndicates dismantled. In addition, 26 cases of “one-chance” robbery were recorded, leading to the arrest of 12 suspects following sustained surveillance and targeted raids.

The Command also recorded 35 cases of car theft and vehicle snatching, with 11 suspects arrested and 20 stolen vehicles recovered both within and outside the FCT. Other arrests were made in connection with homicide, cultism, cyber-related fraud, illegal possession of firearms and drug-related offences, bringing the total number of suspects arrested across these categories to 120.

On rescue operations, CP Dantawaye disclosed that 24 kidnapped victims, including women and children, were successfully rescued from criminal hideouts and forest locations, while eight victims of “one-chance” robbery and other violent crimes were also rescued through prompt police intervention.

He further stated that 96 suspects were charged to court during the period under review, with 60 convictions secured, while other cases are at various stages of prosecution. Disciplinary cases involving police personnel were also addressed in line with existing regulations.

The Commissioner noted that significant recoveries were made, including 21 AK-47 rifles, one K2 rifle, 10 shotguns, 68 locally made and fabricated firearms, 193 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, large quantities of illicit drugs, knives, cutlasses, communication devices and other dangerous weapons. Fourteen vehicles linked to various crimes and cash amounting to N15.45 million, suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, were also recovered.

CP Dantawaye disclosed that nine armed suspects were neutralised during gun duels with police operatives in the course of high-risk operations, particularly anti-kidnapping and armed robbery responses.

He also paid tribute to six police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the period, describing their sacrifice as a solemn reminder of the Force’s commitment to the protection of lives and property.

Looking ahead, the Commissioner assured residents that the Command would intensify community policing efforts, deepen intelligence-led operations, sustain targeted clearance activities and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to address emerging security challenges in the FCT.

He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, the Honourable Minister of the FCT, sister security agencies, community leaders, civil society groups and the media for their continued support and cooperation.

Residents were encouraged to report emergencies through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883 and 07057337653, while complaints can be lodged via the Complaint Response Unit on 08107314192 and the Public Complaint Bureau on 09022222352.
