FCT POLICE REDEPLOY DPO OVER VIRAL ASSAULT INCIDENT

Admin October 23, 2025
CP DANTAWAYE MILLER

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ushafa following a viral video showing the officer slapping a young man.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, sparked public outrage after footage circulated on X (formerly Twitter), drawing widespread condemnation.

In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner described the officer’s behaviour as “unprofessional and unacceptable,” stressing that it fell short of the standards expected of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Dantawaye stated that the officer had been recalled to the State Headquarters while an internal investigation into the incident is underway. He assured the public that disciplinary action would be taken in line with established procedures.

The Commissioner also used the opportunity to remind all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to uphold discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights while performing their duties. He warned that any act of misconduct or abuse of authority would attract severe sanctions.

Furthermore, CP Dantawaye urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and respectful in their interactions with law enforcement officers, noting that mutual respect and cooperation are vital for effective community policing.

Residents of the FCT are encouraged to report suspicious activities or persons through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08061581938, 08032003913, or the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) line at 08107314192.
