FG MOVES TO ALIGN NIGERIA’S DIGITAL TRADE POLICIES WITH AFCFTA

FG MOVES TO ALIGN NIGERIA’S DIGITAL

In a decisive step toward strengthening Nigeria’s role in Africa’s digital economy, the Federal Government has intensified efforts to align its digital trade policies with the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).

The initiative is designed to unlock new economic opportunities, boost e-commerce, and accelerate national development, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

At the forefront of this drive was a Stakeholders’ Engagement on the Review and Validation of the Draft National E-Commerce Policy and Strategy (NEPS), held in Abuja. The engagement was jointly organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Speaking at the event, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, Director General of NITDA, represented by Engr. Salisu Kaka (PhD), Director of the eGovernment and Digital Economy Development Department, highlighted the transformative power of e-commerce in reshaping industries, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable economic growth.

The NEPS framework is expected to provide Nigeria with a robust digital trade strategy, positioning the country to take full advantage of AfCFTA while empowering local businesses to scale beyond borders through digital platforms and transactions.
