The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fully support the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) while honouring fallen heroes and celebrating service excellence at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Regimental Dinner Night in Abuja.

The event was held on Tuesday night at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, in an atmosphere of solemn remembrance, military tradition and camaraderie.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), said the AFCRD was more than a ceremonial gathering, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s military heritage and collective national sacrifice.

He noted that the occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate the courage, professionalism and resilience of serving personnel, while honouring officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation.

The Minister said Nigerian troops continue to confront complex security challenges with determination and professionalism, stressing that the peace and stability enjoyed by the country are products of their vigilance and sacrifice.

He assured personnel of the Federal Government’s resolve to improve welfare, logistics and operational support, adding that President Tinubu remains committed to ensuring that the Armed Forces are adequately equipped, motivated and empowered to discharge their constitutional duties.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, described the Regimental Dinner Night as one of the Armed Forces’ most cherished traditions, combining remembrance, discipline and pride in military service.

In a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the CDS commended troops for their gallantry across various theatres of operation, noting that their conduct has strengthened civil-military relations and public confidence in the Armed Forces. He also acknowledged the vital role of military families in sustaining morale and operational effectiveness.

The event featured the presentation of medals and awards to senior officers in recognition of gallantry, meritorious service and outstanding contributions to national defence.
