The recent declaration by the International Maritime Bureau of Nigeria’s waters as piracy-free has been acknowledged and commended by the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, assuring the Western Naval Command of continued collaboration to improve the security of Nigeria’s ports and waters.
This was disclosed when the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC), Rear Admiral MG Oamen visited the Managing Director (NPA), in his office intending to strengthen collaboration to fight maritime insecurity.
In his remarks, FOC WNC stated that the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce himself to the NPA management and seek their collaboration with the primary objective of enhancing security in Nigeria’s waters to support maritime businesses.
He assured the NPA management that the WNC is committed to resolving security issues in Lagos’ ports adding that new measures are being developed to address the issues while giving the assurances of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla to emplace a seamless security architecture within the maritime domain.
In response, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho expressed his profound gratitude to the FOC WNC and his team for the visit while he used the opportunity to congratulate Rear Admiral Oamen on his appointment as FOC WNC and offered prayers for God’s guidance during his tenure.
