The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), has formally bowed out of the Nigerian Armed Forces after an illustrious career spanning 39 years and four months, urging military personnel and citizens alike to remain steadfast in their service to the nation.
Delivering his valedictory remarks during his official pulling-out parade held in his honour, Gen. Musa expressed profound gratitude to God, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Nigerian people for the opportunity to serve at the highest level of military leadership.
“This parade is not just a ceremony; it is a sacred military tradition that marks the conclusion of a remarkable 39 years and four months of service to our beloved nation,” he said.
“As I reflect on this incredible journey, I am humbled by the privilege of having served my country.”
Gen. Musa thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him as CDS, as well as members of the National Assembly, the Executive, the Judiciary, and all Nigerians who supported the Armed Forces during his tenure.
He also congratulated his successor and the current Service Chiefs, pledging his full support to them as they continue the mission of safeguarding the nation.
The retired general paid glowing tribute to officers and men of the Armed Forces, describing them as the “true heroes of our nation,” whose courage and resilience have sustained Nigeria’s unity and stability.
“I have had the privilege of serving alongside giants,” he said. “I’ve witnessed your courage in the face of adversity, your resilience in the harshest conditions, and your unwavering commitment to the peace and unity of our country.”
He urged troops to remain loyal, professional, and dedicated to their duties, adding that “defeat is temporary, but victory is forever,” and encouraging them to “keep believing in Nigeria, for it is a nation worth fighting for.”
Gen. Musa extended heartfelt appreciation to his wife, Ogogolilia Musa, and his children—Kuwait, Yashinbobai, and Indi—for their sacrifices and unwavering support throughout his career, describing them as “the unsung heroes” behind his service.
He also commended other security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS, the NIA, and the DIA, for their cooperation in strengthening national security, and acknowledged the Nigerian media for their constructive role in nation-building.
“As I retire my uniform today, I do so with a clear conscience, knowing that I gave my all,” he noted.
“While the sound of the drill may fade for me, the heart of a soldier beats forever.”
Gen. Musa reaffirmed his enduring commitment to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and constitutional order, emphasizing that though he is leaving active service, his dedication to the country remains unshaken.
He concluded by giving thanks to God for divine protection throughout his career, declaring:
“I may be retiring from active service, but I will never retire from my love for Nigeria. God bless you all, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
