The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, commissioned some modest infrastructural projects in Port Harcourt Barracks.

Major General Emekah commended the Commanding Officer (CO), 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Irinam Otogo, for keying into the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s Soldiers-First mantra, which birthed the complete remodelling and renovation of one block of ten flats at the Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQ) for the comfort of soldiers of the battalion and their families.

The GOC noted that several projects have been executed in the past and others are still ongoing, as 6 Division under his watch has resolved to ensure the prompt completion of projects, especially soldiers’ quarters.

He also implored the beneficiaries to embrace a good maintenance culture, noting that the NA has done its part. “To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said.

Similarly, Major General Emekah commissioned a remodelled, solar-powered Python Roundabout that will stand the test of time and serve the residents of the barracks. The project was also executed by the CO, 29 Battalion.

Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Irinam Otogo said he was spurred to undertake the holistic remodelling of the Python Roundabout, stressing that, as it was before, it did not measure up to the standard of infrastructural development set by the GOC in terms of environmental cleanliness and illumination across all formations and units under 6 Division.

He further stated that the roundabout was remodeled with several notable features such as solar lighting, clear markings, and directional signs to ensure visibility even during poor weather or low-light conditions.

These features, he noted, symbolized discipline, innovation, and professionalism for the benefit of residents within the barracks.

Furthermore, he affirmed that the renovation of the CBQ was aimed at improving the living conditions of troops for enhanced comfort, morale, and operational readiness.

The GOC added that both projects reflect quality, strong leadership, and the commitment of the GOC and officers of the battalion in upholding the Division’s standard of excellence.
