The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General HT Dada has commended the Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for mentoring Corps Members in leadership roles and also providing skill acquisition training for them to become self-reliant.
General Dada disclosed this today when he hosted the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed in his office in Enugu.
In a statement by the NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, General Dada described the NYSC as a symbol of national unity, adding that the deployment policy of NYSC by posting Corps Members outside their State of Origin has exposed many graduate youths to know different cultures, values, and beliefs of other tribes across the country.
He said many ex-Corps Members have become self-reliant through the NYSC entrepreneurship training they were exposed to, during their service year.
The GOC also poured encomiums on the NYSC Director General for his uncommon leadership style which has positively transformed the Scheme since he assumed duty.
“We have no option we are going to support you”, the GOC said.
Speaking earlier, Brigadier General YD Ahmed thanked the officers and men of the division for their immense support for the National Youth Service Corps Secretariats within their areas of jurisdiction.
He however solicited more security assistance, especially through patrols on NYSC formations, and Corps Lodges among others.
Also, while addressing Corps Members during his visit to Enugu State Orientation Camp in Awgu, Brigadier General YD Ahmed warned them against night traveling and indulging in any act that could endanger their lives.
He stated that NYSC Management has partnered with security agencies to provide maximum protection for them throughout their service year.
The NYSC Enugu State Coordinator, Mrs. Christianah Salmwang in her camp report to the Director General said the relationship between NYSC Enugu State Secretariat and the State Government has been very cordial.
She attributed the success recorded so far during the Orientation Exercise to the synergy among the entire camp officials and the 1,573 Corps Members comprising 785 males and 788 females.
