The Eastern Union Intervention and Conflict Resolution Committee (ICRC) on Sunday, warned political parties against featuring any none South-Eastern aspirant as a consensus presidential candidate from the South-East.
In a statement by His Lordship, Bishop Prof Uwanaka, warned the two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors of the South-East, Governor Okezie Ekpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State against any attempt to circumvent the Igbos by their so-called consensus candidate of the Rivers State Governor, Nysom Wike.
The group in their statement adviced the two Governors to drop their idea of prompting the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nysom Wike as PDP’s consensus candidate for the 2023 Presidential election.
According to them, the Governors should not undermine the mandate given to them in 2015 by the generality of the Igbos in their states and see it as an opportunity to sabotage the common interest of the Igbos. The group stated that the idea to sell the Igbo right to another geo-political Zone is sabotage.
The group insisted that even though the two Governors of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Governor of Enugu State, and Okezie Ekpeazu the Governor of Abia State have the right to support whosoever they preferred, they have no right to veto who the South East will present.
“It’s on record that Nigeria still operates six indirect and unofficial Geo-political zones system of administration but powered through 36 States and Abuja as Federal Capital territory. Four of the regions – Southwest, North-East, South-South, and currently North West have tasted Presidency since 1999 since this current dispensation of democracy started.
“This time by every barometer and human justice everyone agreed it should go to South. Before now both Southwest and South South-South have had their turn and it’s only fair that the South-East have their turn come the 2023 Presidential election.
“So it’s the resolve of EU that only a South-Eastern of Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, and Ebonyi should collectively be supported to present candidates from all the Political Parties that shall be acceptable to Ndigbo for the 2023 Presidential election.” The statement reads.
According to the EU, as long as Nigeria operates a zoning Political system, South East deserved its turn after the order of four other regions of Southwest, North-East, South-South and currently North West have tasted presidency since 1999.
The group said it’s now the turn of the South-East to produce the President in the 2023 presidential election.
The group, therefore, resolved that only a South-Eastern of Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, and Ebonyi should collectively be supported to present candidates from all the political parties that shall be acceptable to Ndigbo for the 2023 presidential election.

Agreed that everyone including Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi the Governor of Enugu State and Okezie Ekpeazu the Governor of Abia State has the right to support whosoever they preferred.
They called on Okezie Ekpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to give their individual votes and that of their families to whomsoever they wish but should not talk of consensus adding that they have no right to talk on behalf of Ndigbo of the South-East in such capacity.
“When EU concludes every consultation, we shall take a stand as to who we shall officially support and be presented as the candidate in the 2023 presidential election irrespective of the person’s political party.
“Whoever is calling another person from any other zone to take the place of South-East is seriously beating the drum of anarchy because anyone presented to replace a core South-East candidate shall be resisted.” The group said.
