The Senior Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre (HICC), Bolaji Idowu, has announced a welfare initiative under which the church will provide financial support to unemployed members who actively serve in the ministry.
Pastor Idowu disclosed during a Sunday church service that eligible members would receive a monthly stipend of N50,000 for a period of three months to help them cope while searching for new employment.
According to him, the initiative is targeted at church workers and leaders who are currently “in between jobs” after losing their source of livelihood.
“All those that serve in church that are in between jobs—you used to have a job and you lost it—for the next three months, we’ll be giving you N50,000 every month to help you until you get your next job,” the cleric said.
He explained that the support scheme would apply to leaders serving in various departments of the church, stressing that the move was part of the church’s responsibility to support its members in difficult times.
“So all of those leaders that serve in church that I just mentioned, we’re giving N50,000 just to help them stabilise. One of the things the church should do is to be there for one another,” Idowu added.
The pastor urged eligible members to register with the church administration, noting that the process would be straightforward as the beneficiaries are already trusted due to their commitment and service to the church.
“If you fall into this category, see your pastor or the church administration and register. We are not going to do so many interviews because for you to serve, we trust that you are honest,” he said.
The announcement was greeted with loud applause and excitement from members of the congregation, many of whom praised the initiative as a timely intervention amid prevailing economic challenges.
