The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Thursday held a strategic conference with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, issuing fresh directives aimed at strengthening internal security nationwide.
The meeting, held at the Peacekeeping Hall of the Force Headquarters, brought together Commissioners of Police and heads of tactical formations to review ongoing security operations and outline new measures ahead of the approaching festive season.
Addressing the officers, Egbetokun commended their resilience and commitment to maintaining public safety despite evolving security challenges across the country.
He directed all commands to immediately reinforce intelligence gathering, intensify community policing initiatives, and enhance protection for vulnerable communities through lawful and professional conduct.

The IGP also ordered a scale-up of visible policing through expanded deployment of personnel nationwide during the yuletide period, noting that heightened public presence of security operatives is critical to deterring criminal activities and reassuring citizens of their safety.
A major highlight of the briefing was the update on the implementation of the Presidential Directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escorts and guard duties. Egbetokun disclosed that 11,566 officers have so far been withdrawn from such assignments and will be redeployed to bolster frontline policing operations.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the withdrawal is designed to free up manpower for core policing responsibilities and improve overall national security outcomes.
Reiterating the Force’s commitment to public safety, the IGP assured Nigerians that the Police would continue to adopt proactive measures to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all residents and visitors.
