The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has formally declared open a five-day capacity-building training programme for officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State, aimed at strengthening professionalism and promoting people-centred policing.

The training, which commenced on Monday, January 19, 2026, is holding at the Trig-Point Hotel Hall, Awka, and focuses on Strategic Police Conduct, Emotional Intelligence, Human Relations, Communication Skills, and Attitudinal Change. It is sponsored by the Police Trust Fund as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Force.

Participants drawn from various departments and formations within the Anambra State Police Command are undergoing intensive sessions designed to equip them with modern policing skills and foster positive behavioural transformation.

The programme is expected to run until January 23.
Declaring the training open on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Ngozi Ezeabata, emphasised the importance the IGP places on emotional intelligence, effective communication, and sound human relations in contemporary policing.

She noted that these competencies are critical to building public trust, strengthening police-community relations, and ensuring efficient service delivery.

The Anambra State Police Command expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Trust Fund for facilitating the programme, describing it as a timely intervention that would significantly enhance security operations in the state.

Resource persons at the training are engaging participants on key areas including conflict management, ethical policing, leadership, and attitudinal change, with a strong emphasis on professionalism and accountability.

The five-day programme underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force leadership to continuous capacity development and the ongoing transformation of policing practices in line with global best standards and community expectations.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on January 19, 2026.
