With the increased tempo in combating the illicit drug regime in Nigeria under the leadership of Brigadier Buba Marwa, (rtd.) the Seme Border Commander of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Udotong Noah Essien on Wednesday gave kudos to officers and men of the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme, for intercepting 232 parcels of cannabis Sativa along the beach line.
The anti-drug boss gave the commendation while officially receiving the illicit drug parcels from Seme Command Customs Comptroller, Mohammed Bello Jibo at the seizure yard of the Customs at Seme in presence of newsmen.
The street value of the cannabis believed to have been brought from Ghana or any of the neighbouring West African countries is put at N2,933,358.40.
While handing over the parcels, Jibo remarked that the fight against drugs was a general one as the physical and psychological harm drugs do to society particularly youths is unquantifiable.
He pointed out that Customs personnel have cordial working relationships with sister security agencies particularly NDLEA.
In his response, Essien appreciated the collaboration between his Agency and Customs and attributed the success of intercepting the 232 parcels of cannabis to such synergy.
While officially receiving the parcels, he promised that his Agency would go after those responsible for smuggling the illicit drugs into the country. He enjoined other sister agencies at the border to increase their level of cooperation so that every Agency’s objectives are achieved.
