A change of baton recently announced by the police high Command has become effective as the new Commissioner of Police; Imo state has resumed duty in Owerri. He is CP Abutu Yaro who takes over from CP Nasiru Mohammed, who has been redeployed to Ports Authority (PAP) Western Command, Lagos.
In a statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Ikeokwu Godson Orlando said on Thursday that CP Abutu Yaro hails from Kogi State and was enlisted into the force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988. He graduated from Ahmadu University, Zaria with a first degree in Public Administration. He has served the force in various capacities in different Commands and formations.
Abutu is a fellow of the prestigious National Defence College, known for his operation dexterity and administrative acumen. CP Abutu Yaro is the immediate past Commissioner of Police of Zamfara State, whose exploits resulted in the arrest of so many bandits and recovery of hundreds of arms and ammunitions. The Commissioner of Police assumes duty as the 38th Commissioner of Police Imo State Command.
In another development, the CP pledged to work assiduously to ensure a peaceful Imo State, as well as a robust working relationship between Police and members of the public.
The CP said this while addressing the journalist in his office immediately after taking over. He further promised to ensure visibility policing across the state, such that the Police will occupy the public space thereby preventing crime and criminality.
Also, he said the command under his watch would focus on intelligence-led policing, promising to instill confidence in the populace through community and stakeholders engagement, this he said would result in improved public trust and confidence in the police.
He also said the command would embark on strategic placement of personnel to ensure that round pegs are placed in round holes, which is aimed at providing effective Police service delivery.
“We would continue to partner with all security agencies and other critical stakeholders in the state to ensure that Imo is peaceful for business to thrive.”
CP Abutu Yaro, therefore, called on members of the public that Imo state would be absolutely safe, as normalcy has been restored, unlike what is been circulated on various media platforms.
The new CP later addressed senior officers of the command where he gave strategic and operational directives.
