The Ijaw nation has begun preparations to bid farewell to one of its most revered leaders, Pa Dr. Edwin Clark, as the Ijaw National Congress (INC) National Burial Committee, led by its Chairman, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, paid a condolence visit to the late statesman’s family in Kiagbodo, Delta State.

The visit marks a significant step in organizing a funeral that will honuor the monumental legacy of the elder statesman, who was not only an Ijaw leader but also a towering voice of truth, justice, and courage in Nigeria.

The delegation, comprising prominent members of both the INC and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), was warmly received by members of the Clark family, including his first daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Clark-Okorodudu, a retired NDDC Director; his sons, Mr. Panaowei Clark, Chief Hon. Ebikeme Clark (Delta State Commissioner for Riverine Development), and Alhaji Garuba Isamila Clark.

Also present were the late patriarch’s siblings, Prof. C.C. Clark, Mrs. Clark Umo-Udoyo, Hon. Paul Clark (Chairman, Kiagbodo Community), alongside other family members.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs described Pa Clark as more than a leader: “He was our king, a man who fought for us, stood for truth, and inspired generations of Ijaw sons and daughters to stand for justice.”

He assured that the Ijaw nation, both at home and in the diaspora, will come together to give Pa Clark a funeral befitting his stature and lifelong service.

“The journey has begun, and we will proceed with utmost respect and dignity as we lay to rest a king,” he said.

Further details of the funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days. The INC has called on all Ijaw people to continue keeping the Clark family in their prayers during this period of mourning.
