An escaping Baboon from the Centre for Psychic and Healing Administration, under the management of one Mrs Flora Ilonzo, a female, of Agu-Awka on Wednesday attacked a teenager and left a deep cut on his leg.
Anambra State Police Command confirmed the attack but said that the incident was reported at B’ Division, Awka on February 10, 2021 about 8:am.
It was learnt that the Baboon escaped from the cage and inflicted injury on the girl’s legs, Chekwube Osita Dinma, 13 years of same address.
Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Haruna Mohammed said the Area Commander, Awka Metro, ACP Yemi Ajayi and Divisional Police Officer, B’ Division Awka have visited the crime scene while the injured victim was taken to the hospital, treated and discharged.
However, the monkey was returned to a more secured cage for public safety while the owner of the centre, Mrs Ilonzo’s statement was taken under caution.
It was further revealed that she was granted bail on self-recognition. In addition, the statement of the victim’s father was equally recorded and investigation is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Command said they are collaborating with relevant government agencies in order to ensure that the animals at the Centre are securely kept properly to prevent a repeat of this kind of incident.
