INTER-BRIGADE COMPETITION: STRATEGY TO IMPROVE LEADERSHIP, ORGANIZATIONAL ABILITY – MAJ GEN AJOSE, GOC 8 DIV

INTER-BRIGADE COMPETITION

To enhance the capabilities and preparedness of troops of 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto in fulfilling its critical responsibilities, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose has flagged off the Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition 2025.

Making his remarks as the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH) the GOC, Major General Ibikunle Ajose who was represented by the Commander, 78 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Moses Ikobah said that the competition was part of the strategies designed to improve junior leadership, organizational ability and initiative.

He added that the Non-Commissioned Officers’ competition in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which is “To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army towards Bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment”.

The event being hosted by 8 Division Garrison kicked off at 26 Battalion Parade Ground Giginya Cantonment Sokoto on Monday, 7th April 2025 with 1 Brigade, 17 Brigade, 8 Division Garrison, 48 Engineers Brigade, and 58 Signals Brigade participating in the one-week competition.

While urging the participating formations to put in their best to win laurels, the GOC enjoined them to take advantage of what the competition would offer and reflect on why the competition was organised and the objective it’s set to achieve.

He commended the efforts of the troops in dealing with all forms of security threats in their various formations.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Jibia Muhammed stated that the competition is organised to improve junior leadership, inculcating in them good traits, organisational ability, to promote esprit-de-corps among troops, and to build inter-formations and unit relationships.

He called on the soldiers to leverage on the competition to broaden their friendship while at the same time, learn some good virtues from other colleagues that would promote their career in the force.

Present at the opening ceremony were commanders of various participating formations, heads of security agencies in Sokoto and staff officers from Headquarters 8 Division.
