
A seminar designed to address key challenges and strategies for mitigating maritime risks is to be organised by the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION).
The seminar will be held April 29th and 30th, 2025, at the IMION Auditorium, NNS QUORRA, Apapa, Lagos.
It is designed for Blue Economy operators, maritime stakeholders, port terminal operators, freight forwarders, logistics coordinators, supply chain managers, exporters, importers, and coastal community leaders.
The topic of the seminar is: Maritime Security and Global Trade.
As a vital forum aimed at providing participants with a deep understanding of maritime security’s crucial role in global trade, the seminar will help participants identify threats and develop practical, real-world solutions.
During the two-day seminar, subject matter expert instructors, industry leaders, and global trade specialists will lead the training including: Mr William Azub, an Independent Maritime Consultant with over 30 years of experience in Maritime Policy, Governance, and Administration. He previously served as Deputy Director at the Intemational Maritime Organization (IMO).
In a statement signed by Rear Admiral TC Udofia, Director General, IMION explained that Rear Admiral Sunday Daniel Atakpa, Director of Operations at Naval Headquarters and a Nigerian Navy expert on the Blue Economy, with specialist qualifications in Hydrography, Maritime Law, and Safety Information, will also feature as one of the guest speakers.
Others are Dr. Obiora Edwin Madu, a logistics and supply chain management professional with over 36 years of experience. An adjunct professor at Malaysia University of Science and Technology, he received Nigeria’s National Productivity Order of Merit Award in 2014; Prof. Freedom Chukwudi Onuoha, Coordinator of Security, Violence, and Conflict Research at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He specializes in National and Transnational Security Threats, including Maritime Security, Terrorism, and Organized Crime.
Others include Rear Admiral Francis Dan Akpan (retired), former Defence Adviser to South Africa and multiple African nations. He played a key role in advancing Nigeria‘s naval training programs and operational standards.
