IWD 2025: NAOWA CHAIRPERSON, 8 DIVISION NA RAISES CONCERN ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, DISCRIMINATION

In commemoration of the year 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) Celebration, the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) 8 Division Chapter led by its Chairperson, Mrs. Meg Ndidi Ajose organised a Symposium to mark the Day at the Headquarters 8 Division Auditorium, Sokoto with the theme: “ACCELERATE ACTION”.

In her welcome remarks, the Chairperson NAOWA 8 Division Chapter, who was also the Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Meg Ndidi Ajose described the International
Women’s Day as a global movement which recognizes the importance and roles of women in the development of the society, highlighting the need to address gender gaps.

She stressed that the celebration provides opportunities for society to work towards creating a world where women have equal opportunities in all aspects of life, as the global communities come together to mark the Day.

The celebration, according to her, also serves as platforms to raise awareness on things that are affecting women globally, which include gender based violence, discrimination, child marriage, and inadequate quality education, healthcare and economic opportunities among others.

Mrs Ajose, therefore, charged the women to be solution provider to a long list of challenging issues affecting the females gender. “As we continue to draw attention on these issues with the help of government agencies and non-governmental support, we hope in the nearest future to attain substantial results”, she said.

On his part, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, acknowledged women for their courage and resilience in keeping the home front safe during long deployment of their husbands, while urging all to take upbringing of female children as important.

He, therefore, commended the Chairperson for all efforts she put in place for the success of the event.

Highlights of the event were series of lectures by resource persons focusing on gender equality and women empowerment, personal development, and group photographs among others.

Present at the occasion include the members of NAOWA, Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association, Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, and Civil Defence Officers Wives Association, Sokoto Chapter. Others were members Nigeria Customs Officers Wives Association, Captain of industries and the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association.
