A joint security operation in Anambra State has recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV belonging to a kidnap and armed robbery victim and arrested a female suspect linked to the crime.
According to the Anambra State Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives attached to the 3-3 Police Station, working in collaboration with the Agunechemba Security Unit, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, arrested one Okonkwo Onyinye, 23, in the early hours of October 27, 2025, following the coordinated operation that led to the vehicle’s recovery in Ogidi.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was ambushed by five armed men driving a Toyota Corolla at Nkwelle GRA Gate. The attackers reportedly forced the victim into the boot of his Highlander and drove to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they dispossessed him of his phone and transferred ₦24 million from his account before fleeing with the vehicle.
Following a swift report, the Joint Security Team deployed intelligence-led tracking to trace the suspects’ movement from Nawfia to Ogidi. On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums allegedly opened fire, prompting a gun duel before escaping the scene.
The stolen white Toyota Highlander (registration number RBC 649 CN) was recovered, while the female accomplice, Okonkwo Onyinye, was apprehended at the scene. Police say she is currently assisting investigators with useful information to aid in the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
The Police Command also disclosed that patrols and surveillance operations have been intensified across the state in preparation for the Anambra Governorship Election slated for November 8, 2025.
“Further developments will be communicated as investigations progress,” said SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command.
