In the wake of the limitless financial impropriety, accusations and counter accusations which have bedeviled the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in recent time, the federal government has dissolved the NDDC Interim Management Committee (IMC) headed by Prof. Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei.
Consequent upon this, Dr. Dabota Godswill Jumbo has been appointed as Sole Administrator of the Commission for initial period of six months.
In a statement on Thursday issued by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, the NDDC has now been placed on the direct supervision of the Presidency. According to him, the action of the government was necessitated by the recommendation of the Senate which has asked for the dissolution of the NDDC Interim Management Committee while the most senior civil servant at the Commission should take over.
Sequel to the Senate, the federal government had set up a Technical Committee to study the recommendation and advise it. The technical committee’s position was in sync with the Senate recommendation, hence the dissolution and appointment of a sole administrator.
According to Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the people of Niger Delta that the forensic audit of the Commission would continue unhindered.
