The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following the deadly attack that claimed the lives of 75 persons.
The Nigeria Police Force condemned the violent assault, which occurred on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, describing it as a heinous act against innocent citizens and a direct threat to public peace and security.
In a statement issued on Thursday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the Government and people of Kwara State, over what he described as a deeply painful and tragic incident.
Reassuring Nigerians of the Force’s resolve, the IGP stated that the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property and will spare no effort in guaranteeing the safety and security of all citizens.
As part of immediate response measures, the IGP directed the deployment of specialised tactical units, enhanced intelligence capabilities and operational resources to Kaiama and neighbouring communities. The move, he said, is aimed at restoring calm, strengthening security presence and preventing further acts of violence.
The Police have also launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators and all individuals connected to the attack. Investigations are already underway, with all available resources mobilised to ensure those responsible are identified, apprehended and brought to justice.
“The perpetrators will not escape the long arm of the law,” the statement assured.
The Inspector-General of Police further called on members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information that could aid investigations, urging citizens to report useful intelligence through the nearest police stations or established police communication channels.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its unwavering commitment to the maintenance of peace, law and order across the country.
