The Kano State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled a notorious syndicate of fake police officers operating across several northern states, arresting five suspects during a targeted intelligence-led operation.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) apprehended the suspects at about 1:00 p.m. on October 16, 2025, following credible intelligence that led to their swift interception while parading themselves as genuine officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Those arrested include Aliyu Abbas (35), Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Adamu Kalilu (45).
Items recovered from the suspects include a fake police warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, ₦2,500 in CFA currency, mutilated naira notes, and their operational vehicle — a blue Peugeot 406 with registration number NSR-188-BD.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to impersonating police officers to extort unsuspecting citizens and carry out other criminal activities across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna States. Police authorities confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the swift response of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding law and order. He warned that the police would deal decisively with anyone found engaging in criminal impersonation or fraudulent activities in the state.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via its emergency hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
