MAJ GEN ONUBOGU HANDS OVER TO MAJ GEN NNEBEIFE AS GOC 2 DIVISION

Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, has taken over as the 47th General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), and Force Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMA sector 3, following the recent approval of appointments and postings by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede.

He assumed command shortly after the handing and taking over ceremony between him and his predecessor, Major General Obinna Onubogu, on Tuesday, 19th August, 2025, at Headquarters (HQ) 2 Division NA, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.

In his remarks, Major General Chinedu expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the privilege to resume command of 2 Division NA as GOC.

“I am indeed grateful to God for the grace to have achieved this feet. I appreciate the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the confidence reposed on me and the opportunity to take up a new phase of service to the NA and the nation at large.

Gen Nnebeife, further commended the outgoing GOC, Major General Obinna Onubogu, for his sterling leadership and commitment during his tour of duty. He solicited support of officers and soldiers of the Division; changing them to redouble their efforts in the discharge of military duties.

Similarly, in his farewell address, the outgoing GOC, Major General Onubogu, thanked the Almighty God for the privilege to have served the NA as GOC 2 Division. He also appreciated the COAS for availing him the unique opportunity, and for his untiring support to the Division during the period.

General Onubogu, used the opportunity to appreciate officers and soldiers of the Division for their support during his tenure, while urging them to accord same, and even more support to his successor for the overall benefit of the NA and the entire country.

The handing and taking over ceremony, was eventful, featuring signing of handing and taking over notes between the outgoing and incoming GOCs, decoration of the new GOC with 2 Division insignia and farewell address to troops by the outgoing GOC.

There were also handing over of the new command flag to the incoming GOC, hoisting of the new Division’s flag at the quarter guard which signifies the begining of a new era, and group photograph.
