…AS HE TASKS FG TO BOOST TROOPS’ MORALE
By Okosun Dennis
The Olofin of Isheri, Arole Olofin Ogunfunminire, and the Adimula of Aworiland, Ogun State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sulaiman Adekunle Bamgbade (Ayodele III), has commended the military for their statue and proactive steps taken in combating the nuisance value of the terrorists.
He thanked the Nigerian Army for what they are doing noting that their job isn’t an easy one hence “we need more synergy with the military.”
Speaking in his Palace at Isheri in an exclusive interview with NAOSNPIAN LENS crew, a news magazine published by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the Olofin explained that the troops have done their best in the six geopolitical zones of the country tackling the security problems in the country.
“I must commend my brothers in the Nigerian Army for what they are doing. It is not easy. I have been there in the theatre of action. As such, I must commend them. We need more synergy with the military.”
Asked how he has been able to deal with emerging security problems within his domain, Oba Bamgbade (Ayodele 111) added that his intervention in security matters in Isheri kingdom of Ogun state has been robust and engaging since he assumed the throne.
“Since I came on the throne, I have been actively involved in managing Security within my domain considering that I have a military background and could speak Hausa language.
With a growing Kara market within my domain that attracts thousands of people every day, the challenges are quite high. “For example, the first day I assumed the throne, the Police wanted to arrest someone but some indigenes wanted to resist or prevent them. As a leader, I stopped the people and cooperated with the Police by giving them the needed support to pick anyone who has offended the Nigerian state or ran contrary to the laws.
“They know I won’t harbour them (criminals), so, anybody that is criminally minded had to relocate. That is not to say that I am the only one who was able to change the narrative, the security agencies have helped and the village Chiefs too are bringing to bear my ideology. As a result, we have been able to take care of all these vices.”
Explaining how he was able to avert clashes among the fishermen arising from their fishing area in the waters, HRM Oba Sulaiman Bamgbade added: “Within the short time I have been the traditional ruler, I recalled a day that about 40 fishermen came to report that they have been having low catch due to certain group of fishermen they had complained about using an unorthodox manner across the Lagos lagoon towards Ikorodu.
“They complained that they use a large net to cross the entire water so that even the smallest fish are not left behind and they have about 40 to 50 boats to take the harvest.
“I summoned the Baales because those places are actually Olofin lands and I asked if they had a hand in it, and they said no and implored me that I should call in the Marine Police Command which I did. I asked if they were aware of such fishing practices. When he got them, we found that none of them speaks our language. I was able to get them to stop such practices and peace was restored.
“I went further to summon the Head of the Kara market also. He made me understand that that was the same way they fished in their own waters in Sokoto State and caused serious ecological damage,” he disclosed to NAOSNPIAN LENS.
The Olofin used the opportunity to call on fellow traditional rulers to take as a priority to always intervene as it would help avoid or reduce herdsmen clash or fishermen clash in their domains.
“We have roles to play as traditional rulers and our security agencies need to engage us too because most of these things we can prevent from escalating but not just the Security agencies and the national leaders only,” he reiterated.
While advising the government and Nigerian citizens, the ex-soldier advised the government to strengthen the Nigerian Army; increase the morale of its troops through enhanced welfare packages.
“I have been there so I know. Things keep changing and I know that in due time, they will overcome. As citizens, we need to be proactive. They can’t do it all alone if we don’t cooperate with them, I am sure we will have victory in no time,” the Olofin of Isheri, Arole Olofin Ogunfunminire, and the Adimula of Aworiland, Ogun State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sulaiman Adekunle Bamgbade (Ayodele III) assured.
