The quest to occupy the No. 1 seat in Lagos Island Local Government Area by Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan under the auspices of the All Progressive Congress (APC) received a tremendous boost on thursday, 26th June 2025, as Market Women in Lagos Island rolled out their drums for a “Street Walk” soliciting for support and urging the indigene to vote massively for him on the 12th July, 2025 local government elections in Lagos State.
Resplendent of a carnival, the women in their large numbers spoke with one voice – asking every eligible voter to vote the candidate to become the Executive Chairman Local Government Council.
Their intentions were clear and lucid; to ensure that no stone was left unturned and use their voter’s card to secure him the seat.

In company of Prince Taiwo Oyekan (PTO), in defiance of the heavy downpour, with over 3,000 women, they matched like the Trojan soldiers, crushing every pool of water, without bearing umbrella and raincoats, they were determined to make a statement.
The walk kicked off at the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu’s Palace, Lagos Island, through the major streets, while the women sang, danced and shared flyers which showcased the enviable achievements of Hon Prince Oyekan.
Explaining why they canvassed and supported the candidacy of Hon. Prince Oyekan, Mrs Sidikat Maiyegun Yekini, Otun Iya-Oja Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Ebute-Ero Gorodon Market, Lagos Island emphasized that he has made remarkable achievements as a councillor hence there is the need for every eligible voter to give his/her vote to him as he has proven to be an agent of transformational change.
“He has been in the system, and has carved a niche for himself. I urge him when voted in on 12th July, to focus more attention on the market – social amenities, water, electricity and security. We have five conventional markets in Lagos Island and we are doing so much to improve sanitation in those markets.
“The LGA has been doing extremely well in sanitation and would urge him to do more,” she reiterated.
In chat with our correspondent, the Director General, Prince Taiwo Oyekan (PTO) Campaign Organisation, Lateef Ojora Oguntowora said that the awareness campaign by the women’s wing has turned out to be an inclusive turnout for Prince Oyekan.
“You can see women – young and old – all adorned caps and thick shirts lending support. The turnout and affection is massive and awesome. Even at the peak of the rain, the show of affection was overwhelming.
“Prince Oyekan has made a landmark achievements which he set when he was a councillor. With his trademark achievement, he will excel and clinch the chairmanship position.”
Lateef Ojora Oguntowora, however, implores Prince Oyekan to intensify more efforts in the primary healthcare, basic education, infrastructure, welfare of the electorate. With lots of empowerment, poverty alleviation programmes, security – donated to security outfits and free school buses to primary school – intensifying on them will make life better for the indigene.

However, the Chairman, Mobilization Committee for PTO,
Alesh Rilwan Onilegbale, said the women’s rally was a confirmation and reaffirmation of the endorsement in the leadership of Prince Oyekan whose seven-point agenda will change the status quo in the entire Lagos Island local government.
“Apart from the party structure for campaigning, the women in the entire local government area decided to show their support. This is strictly an initiative tagged: “Women Walk for PTO.”
One of the Councillorship candidate in Ward C1, Mrs Gbemisola Lucas, said the choice of PTO is borne out of his sterling records which puts him at a vantage position against other candidates from other parties. He did a lot given scholarship and has stood as a pillar to everybody.
To Prophetess Adetown Ajasa, she disclosed that Prince Oyekan ensured she made it to Jerusalem on Pilgrimage with all expenses, including processing of her international passport were paid for.
